No Price Increase at Clean Shirt Co. Laundromat Despite Eau Claire’s 20% Water Rate Hike

On April 1, 2026, Eau Claire’s water rates increased by about 20% after City Council approval. The hike aims to address a projected $2.2 million budget deficit and fund important infrastructure repairs, including a new facility for cleaner drinking water.
For local laundromats and dry cleaners, water is one of the biggest operating expenses. A recent WEAU report highlighted how this change is forcing many businesses to raise their prices just to keep up. One longtime owner mentioned their annual water bill jumping from around $27,000 to $33,000, making price adjustments necessary for survival.
